Depending on the type of hematopoietic stem cell donor, two major types of procedures are distinguished:
- autotransplantation – in which CSH (hematopoietic stem cells) are obtained from the child and preserved at very low temperatures (cryopreservation)
- allotransplantation – in which HSC (hematopoietic stem cells) are obtained from a healthy person, related or unrelated to the child.
