The National Registry of Pediatric Onco-Hematology (R.N.O.H.P.) is a database that encompasses all new cases of cancer in children and young people (0-19 years old) registered by participating pediatric oncology centers across Romania.
R.N.O.H.P. is initiated, developed, and coordinated by the ROMANIAN SOCIETY OF PEDIATRIC ONCO-HEMATOLOGY starting from September 1, 2009. The Registry operates exclusively with non-governmental financial support. Between 2009 and 2013, Danone Romania supported the development of RNOHP through Norwegian grants from the NGO Fund for Romania.
Currently, R.N.O.H.P. is financially and logistically supported by Dăruiește Aripi Association (since 2018), within a project of relaunch and upgrading that allowed for the retrospective completion of case studies at the national level. This project aims to improve the content and quality of data, as well as their lawful use in research and in the development of public policies.
R.N.O.H.P. operates with technical support from personnel trained by the European Network of Cancer Registries (ENCR) of the N.W. Region Cancer Registry, based at the “Ion Chiricuță” Oncology Institute in Cluj-Napoca, the official partner of the Romanian Society of Pediatric Oncology-Hematology (SROHP) in supporting and developing the Registry.
Trained personnel in each center participating with data to the Registry reports by completing the ONC form (a set of data and definitions recommended by ENCR and implemented in Romania as per WHO 2027/2007). In 2019, the dataset was supplemented with clinical data, and the latest staging system for pediatric cancers recommended by the Toronto Consensus was implemented. Consequently, R.N.O.H.P. has become one of the most modern and dynamic cancer registries in Central and Eastern Europe.
Until 2018, reporting was conducted on both paper and electronic media (Word forms); currently, reporting is done online via the dedicated ONCPED platform, hosted by the “Ion Chiricuță” Oncology Institute in Cluj-Napoca.
Tumor coding is carried out in accordance with the International Classification of Oncological Diseases, 3rd edition (ICD-O-3), and the International Classification of Childhood Cancers, 3rd edition (ICCC-3).
Each year, reports and studies are generated to analyze the reported pathology and update the epidemiological situation of childhood cancer in Romania.
