The goal of pain treatment is that the patient does not experience pain, which is why the oncopediatrician will establish fixed schemes for the administration of pain medication (antialgesic), which are administered gradually (as dose and as efficiency), until the optimal dose is reached.
The medication is administered at a fixed time, according to the predetermined schedule, even if the child is not in pain at the time of administration.
For severe pain, the child will be given very strong drugs (such as morphine) by the simplest and least painful route (orally, through the skin, through suppositories, intravenously, subcutaneously or intramuscularly).
When the pain becomes more intense and can no longer be controlled under the treatment plan recommended at discharge, the attending physician should be contacted to adapt the therapeutic scheme
