It is our pleasure to share with you the September 2023 edition of the SIOP Europe Educational Programme Newsletter.

The purpose of this newsletter is to update you on the many recent and upcoming educational and training activities, organized by or with the support of SIOP Europe.

We hope that the many learning opportunities are of interest to you and are looking forward to seeing many of you at our upcoming events.

Young SIOPE and ERN PaedCan Webinars – Submit your Case by 16 Oct

The Young SIOPE and ERN PaedCan Interactive Webinar Series on Most Challenging cases in Paediatric Oncology has been a huge success since it started in 2021! Therefore, we are pleased to announce that we will continue with this initiative in 2024.

Seven difficult clinical cases will be chosen for interactive webinars, in which a young oncologist will present the case, followed by a live discussion with an invited expert.

New this year, all selected presenters will benefit from a reduced registration fee to attend the 5^th SIOP Europe Annual Meeting!

1st SIOP Europe Summer School for Paediatric Oncology

The 1st SIOP Europe Summer School will be held 8-12 July 2024 in Vienna, Austria. This initiative is designed for European medical students, offering an opportunity to delve into the complexities of paediatric cancer.

Under the guidance of experts in the field, the SIOP Europe Summer School will equip students with a comprehensive understanding of paediatric oncology, ranging from diagnostic procedures to therapeutic interventions. Students will gain invaluable insights through lectures, interactive workshops and case discussions.

ESO-SIOP Europe Clinical Training Centers – Paediatric Fellowship Programme

ESO and SIOP Europe’s joint Fellowship Programme is designed for young paediatric haematologists and oncologists to advance their clinical experience at renowned centres across Europe.

The programme gives oncologists of the future the opportunity to spend 3 to 6 months at a Centre of Excellence in Europe. They will grow their knowledge in paediatric haematology and oncology and experience a multi-disciplinary clinical setting specifically designed to address their goals.

Selected applicants for the ESO – SIOP Europe Clinical Training Centres Fellowship Programme who have successfully passed their 3 to 6 months stay at the host institution are strongly supported in applying for the upcoming next edition of the 3-year SIOP Europe Course in Paediatric Haematology and Oncology as a further part of your education in the field.

SIOP Europe Annual Meeting

The 4th SIOP Europe Annual Meeting took place on 8-12 May 2023 in Valencia, Spain. This unique meeting provided an opportunity for participants to share their knowledge, collaborate on cutting-edge research and debate the outcomes of the high quality clinical and basic research carried out in Europe, as well as many opportunities for networking and mentoring for young doctors and fellows.

As in past editions, the educational sessions were incredibly well-attended and highly rated by participants. If you missed these sessions or would like to view them again, the recordings are available on SIOP Europe’s YouTube channel here.

SIOP Europe Course in Paediatric Oncology

The 2^nd Module of the 1^st SIOP Europe Course in Paediatric Oncology took place in June in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Fellows and faculty gathered to discuss clinical aspects of childhood cancer, clinical research methods, research collaborations, statistical analysis, presentation skills and leadership. Recordings of select sessions are available on the SIOP Europe YouTube channel here.

Fellows Raphael J. Morscher, Sarah Al-Jilaihawi , Johan Hamrin , Fiona Poyer , Raheel Altaf Raja and Annika V. Rademacher published a report about their experience of the 1^st Module in first edition of the European Journal of Cancer: Paediatric Oncology, available here.

e-Learning and Webinars

ESCP Webinars, in which we explain the new European clinical recommendations for best practice for each childhood cancer. Webinars and recordings are here.

ESO-SIOP Europe e-Learning pathways covering topics in paediatric oncology. Each 45-minute e-Session is presented by leading oncology experts. Recordings remain freely available on demand for further visits here.
Feedback and suggestions for future topics and pathways are highly appreciated.

ESO-ESSO-ESTRO-SIOPE Multidisciplinary Course on Oncology for Medical Students will be held 28 August – 8 September 2023 in Poznan, Poland.
Caring for Adolescents and AYA with Cancer Course Will he held online on 29-30 September 2023 (FULL).
ESO-SIOP Europe Master Class in Paediatric Oncology will be held on 9-12 November 2023 (Hybrid, Milan, Italy).
SIOP Europe Course – 3rd Module will be held 5-8 June 2024 in San Sebastiano da Po (Torino), Italy.
SIOPE Europe Summer School for Paediatric Oncology will be held 8-12 July 2024 in Vienna, Austria.
