All these investigations and procedures are ordered by the pediatric oncologist and performed either in the specialized pediatric oncology medical center or in specialized centers recommended by the pediatric oncologist. Some of these procedures will also be used by the pediatric oncologist to monitor whether the treatment is working and to ensure that the negative effects on normal cells are minimized.
Questions you can ask the doctor or medical team treating your child:
- What procedure/test/examination will the child undergo?
- How will the procedure/test/examination be conducted?
- Will I be able to accompany the child during the procedure/test/examination?
- Will it be a painful procedure/test/examination? If so, what can be done to ease the pain, or make the child more relaxed? Who will perform the procedure/test/examination?
- What information does the doctor expect to receive after performing that procedure/test/examination?
- How quickly will the results be known?
- What is the meaning of the results obtained after performing the procedure/test/examination?
